Collaborative Project: The cat chase, Car model

This is an overall Post on the Pre-Production for my collaborative project for 'The Cat Chase' It's a short toon directed by a friend form university (will add his blog to check his work out. It's top notch!)

So I will start with what I'm doing. So as a 'Generalist' I will be covering most ares such as modelling, texturing, rigging and animation.

3 of those factors come into a model I will be creating as a moving prop for the short toon. A car to be more precise.

So here are a couple of images to help me develop my design. It's based of a 1940's vehicle but 'With' a flat bonnet for easier animation purposes.

After liking a design which was the bottom right, I then began concentrating on the little perks such as the grid to the vehicle, types of shades that I would prefer. Everyone likes a nice red car right?

Then I began looking into the paint work of how I would have it. There needed to be age and rust for the style we were after... something subtle yet bold. I had good help from the art and animation directors to guide to the

Finally a cute littloe concept for the little car.... broom broom!
(next will be the cat chase.)

The Finishing touches to The Personal Project

So here we a Concept Image for my Character.
Very adorable if I do say so. I gave the name Pepmin, because he is the colour of peppermint and I wanted a cute name that wasn't based too much on a recognizable item. So I invented one.

And here is also the Semi-Final animatic for the CG animation. This will include sound and a symphony based backing track.

Only thing to add to this Personal Project is perhaps a couple of Rig tests and experiments to make my character more unique.

Personal Major Project 2015- Pre-Production

This is the design run through of my character for my Person Production. This Production will durate for around 15 seconds where I will show the body mechanics of an elephant mixed with character performance.
The elephant in this sketch (relating to previous animatic)  The elephant chases and plays with a ball. I will not only be creating the character but I will also be rigging and animating it.

Here is the run through of my character design for the the elephant. not that this is yet to be completed.I only need to choose a texture design. With details imagery of textures to go along with this.

I had a go at some quick proportions to determine if I was sure on the shape of my character.

Some colour themes for my character. there was plenty to go through. gradients, culture, patterns and many many vivid colours to give it an original look. I really enjoyed looking into the African
and Indian style differences when decorating elephants.

 a
after A couple of days of painful decision making I decided to go for this theme, A nice vibrant style to the elephants look, that has a circus feel to it. Nice and playful for a children's show.

A page on some cute facial expressions and action poses to give me and idea of his personality (yes, the elephants a HE)

I will upload the 3rd and final animatic soon...

This will show 3 years of CG animation within the university of south wales and what that university has taught me. I believe that this will be one of my greatest achievements within the university for not only animation quality but also production quality enough to even turn heads on industry workers within my area.

Dawn of Fire

This was a collab project for second year that I took on later into my Final Major, I assisted in animated the first half of the wizard (before contact with creature) I was a fun project to join and I hope in the long run I get to assist these people again.

Here's the final outcome. I really enjoyed this project, even though I was late coming into it the people running the project were to have my help. Still cant believe I was a part of this !!!

Hopefully This next major project will be even better!

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT 2015, PRE-PRODUCTION, TOON ELEPHANT

For my final major project I have planned out 3 Productions, two are collaborative with people within my subject and another from visual effects (exciting!!!).

So I thought I would start with showing works for my Personal project, which has a simple pitch of a toon elephant playing with a ball. Should last 15 seconds but hopefully I can reduce it to ten to fit better with the other projects.

I really enjoy doing this short animatic, I will be improving and adding more frames to smooth-en it out for a more accurate time of its run cycle. But overall IT'S ADORABLE!

Nick Ident 2014 November

Heres the final video to our ident animation. Finally after seven weeks of hard work we have finally created it. I provided the sounds, models and texture whilst my partner charlotte mosey ( http://www.charlottemosey.com ) did the animation, rigging and lighting the scene. Even though we couldnt fit all the characters into this aniamtion because of the time limit, we still dont regret creating the other two. Hope to do more projects like this one in the future.

This video above is the reel that helped create our characters to who they are today. I apologise in advance for the quality on some renders but with time limit it was hard to avoid. but never the less, its here.

ENJOY!

Quick on the ball: Ideas for major projects, artist side

For my final year I really like the idea of it being half to three quarters animation and also artist for modelling a character for my show reel . I love character design more then any thing and i'm glad you can design in both artist and animator.

for the modelling part of it, I was really inspired by the 1997 film Wedding singer. One of the characters that was very much 80's vibe stood out from the crowd for me. here a couple of splash images of her as a rough.
