Dawn of Fire

This was a collab project for second year that I took on later into my Final Major, I assisted in animated the first half of the wizard (before contact with creature) I was a fun project to join and I hope in the long run I get to assist these people again.

Here's the final outcome. I really enjoyed this project, even though I was late coming into it the people running the project were to have my help. Still cant believe I was a part of this !!!

Hopefully This next major project will be even better!

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT 2015, PRE-PRODUCTION, TOON ELEPHANT

For my final major project I have planned out 3 Productions, two are collaborative with people within my subject and another from visual effects (exciting!!!).

So I thought I would start with showing works for my Personal project, which has a simple pitch of a toon elephant playing with a ball. Should last 15 seconds but hopefully I can reduce it to ten to fit better with the other projects.

I really enjoy doing this short animatic, I will be improving and adding more frames to smooth-en it out for a more accurate time of its run cycle. But overall IT'S ADORABLE!

Nick Ident 2014 November

Heres the final video to our ident animation. Finally after seven weeks of hard work we have finally created it. I provided the sounds, models and texture whilst my partner charlotte mosey ( http://www.charlottemosey.com ) did the animation, rigging and lighting the scene. Even though we couldnt fit all the characters into this aniamtion because of the time limit, we still dont regret creating the other two. Hope to do more projects like this one in the future.

This video above is the reel that helped create our characters to who they are today. I apologise in advance for the quality on some renders but with time limit it was hard to avoid. but never the less, its here.

ENJOY!

Quick on the ball: Ideas for major projects, artist side

For my final year I really like the idea of it being half to three quarters animation and also artist for modelling a character for my show reel . I love character design more then any thing and i'm glad you can design in both artist and animator.

for the modelling part of it, I was really inspired by the 1997 film Wedding singer. One of the characters that was very much 80's vibe stood out from the crowd for me. here a couple of splash images of her as a rough.

Colour design

For my family of 4 for the Nick Ident I had to come up with textures for each one of them to define them and visually describe their personality.

After talking with my partner on colours we liked the look of we decided to go for a lagoon colour scheme so the characters stand out from the orange logo of 'Nick'.

I really like the results of this, simple, friendly and bright perfect for a kids themed channel.

Zbrush: Amateur antics

So I tried Zbrush properly as an exercise for the sting project I'm currently doing.

The first 3 were concepts whilst the man anatomy was to just add muscle on top of a lean mesh.

Note that these were quick exercise and could not exceed a day on it.

But for future note I will be doing more detailed Zbrush work soon.

GROUP WORK: NICK IDENT PROJECT, PRE-PRODUCTION (OCT2014)

IDENT PROJECT OCT 2014
CHARACTER DESIGN

For our 10 second sting we Decided to create an Ident for Nick toons or Nickleodeon. We had a few ideas (in previos blog entry) but here we decided to have 4 simple cute characters displaying each letter of the Ident logo.
Here is a  rough idea of the size and height of each character that will be developed into unique shapes and size for our Ident. For this I was the artist for pre-production as a nice experiment to see if I do want to be a complete generalist.

 N:
For our first character we wanted him to be the leader of the bunch since hes the start of the word. This one had to be the most difficult because we needed something to make him unique. as the others had shape and height this one had... well nothing. SO! we decided to play simple and add a distinct feature.

FINAL TURN ON LEADER
Heres the finished process of out leader N... or which I give the nick name Ned since Leader has lead the team and I gave it a twist with the word 'Nick'.

I
Now this guy was an obvious choice, I or Lanky which I nicknamed him, would be a tall fella since they resemble their chosen letters.

I couldn't find the rest of the development for this one but there wasn't much to do to create this fella besides leg, arm and head sizes. but alas here he is.

C
This was secretly the first character designed because he was the easiest to think of. I nicknamed this one Chunk for obvious reasons. His body matches perfectly to the shape of the C

FINAL C
Here is the final, this is where I got creative and played around with brushes to add tone and depth to the character. Really happy with the results as it has that Tim Burton feel to it (in my opinion) which is a nice style for this sting.

K
The runt of the family K will be the pun of the 10 second sting. As he trips with the final letter because he is too tiny to carry it (so cute).

FINAL K
Here is the final for K or shorty. I love the results of his chubby cheeks. it may be difficult to model but I do like a challenge.

THE FAMILY
Well here is the fmaily altogether to see if they go with the same theme and style and I will admit they are completely adorable. I hope after modelling these that I will still have a love for these characters and modelling in it's self.

Second year: Personal Pre-production Jan 2014

MORE SECOND YEAR WORK
Pre-Production, Personal project
SPIDER DISASTER

For our final final project for second year we had to create 4 animation clips if you were an animator. Now for me being a generalist it was tough but I stuck to animation for this year. This was biggest idea out of all of them.
Idea Splash image: This is a couple of scenarios of how the two characters would react to the spider. I was a difficult choice because they were all so amusing but of course I chose the father shutting the door on the spider from fear. Since this would be only 10 seconds long. But alas It actually took 20 seconds to play through the story. Sadly I cant find the animation for this but all I can say is that it was ok for what it was worth. I learnt a lot from the project as it was the biggest and all sounds clips and narrative was created by me. But I learnt to take things slow and use a pre-clip for my next animation.

A few rough design pages on wanted as a father figure for my first character Robert from 101 dalmatians

Second character: Child design

The child design
The character design for the child was pretty fun to do because there was a variety of styles and choices that I liked. I based it on a a couple of images I saw on the internet.

Final character for the female. She is quite the sweet heart bless her.
 Concept art (right)
This was my finished image of the two characters. Note: I wasn't the best Photoshop back then

STORY BOARD: SPIDER DISASTER

Heres how the story will play for the animation.

3rd year: character design splash page and storyboard.

IDENT IDEAS
This is splash page of the ideas I had for cute creature designs.
These two drawings above are ones before research. they are cool but not what we were looking for. Love her attitude though in the bottom right corner haha... Oh how I love expressions.

These become random cute ideas from the top of my head and research into nostalgic program mes and music videos such as Gorillaz which were a huge favorite of mine back when i was younger. These helped with our ideas but alas they were not quite there with ideas just yet.

This cute little fella is an idea I had from a a mixture of voda phone bee advert and the the elephant advert for money supermarket.com I found this guy really adorable but I might play around with him in my own time. I call him ELEBEE!

This was a very rough development on The little robot on the second rough of ideas. My favorite was the top right image as it had a lot of character and opportunities to express many emotions.

 STORY BOARDS

I helped make really rough (and I mean rough) story boards to help my partner to create more ideas in what she picture for out pitch.

E4 pitch: above
This pitch was to do with E4, a classic example of love gone wrong. in this the two couples see each other and happily about to embrace when the female walks past and hugs the E4 logo. Cute but a bit cliche...

Cartoon network pitch:below
In this pitch we had ideas of having a cute robot ( as you can see the designs previously) In this pitch the robot is low on battery so he/she decides to chart him/herself up and plugs itself in to the wall/ then a giant surge hits the robot and over powers it till it's a crisp. then as it pans out a huge ident logo of cartoon network brightens up. I really like this idea but we had bigger things in mind. Although I may take this on in the future when I have time.

Second year

So as I was looking through all my past work I scrambled a couple of animations I made in my second year of animation.

My group Project that involved animating a wizard for a man vs creature teaser. Just a simple walk over a hill nothing too fancy.

My personal project the mad man, a character performance that became one of my best (besides a few errors that i just noticed but Im still quite proud of it.

Sadly I couldn't find the other animation pieces but I'm sure to make up for it with some new work.

ART! (second year of university)

Hello again here are another few images from my visual studies I did over the second year of university.

I didn't get all of them up for reasons unfortunately I couldn't find my first year work, However these were my favorites not because of how some are quite accurate with reality, but how it was so much fun to experiment with continuous line and colours and other types of materials to create art. I hope to use the skills I learnt over the two years for my final year work in computer animation.
